ENT surgeon Dr James Bowman Pituitary Specialist Centre, Brisbane

ENT SURGEON

Our Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist, Dr James Bowman, has advanced training in managing conditions of the skull base including vestibular schwannomas and pituitary tumours as well as head and neck cancers.

The pituitary gland is located in the skull base and lies very close to the nasal cavity. Advances in high definition imaging and specialised endoscopic instrumentation allows the creation of a safe and effective operating pathway via the nose to reach pituitary tumours in the anatomically complex region of the skull base without the need for incisions or open cranial surgery. A skull base trained team of an ENT surgeon and neurosurgeon operating together can achieve better outcomes for patients.

Dr Bowman has degrees in Dentistry (1994) and Medicine (2001) from the University of Queensland. In 2010 Dr Bowman travelled overseas to London, England where he worked for 12 months at Guy’s hospital and obtained further experience in both Head and Neck Surgery and Skull Base surgery. Fortunately, he was able to spend an additional six months working in Italy performing both lateral and endoscopic endonasal skull base surgery.

James is a member of the Head and Neck Cancer clinic at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Queensland Skull Base Unit, performing complex surgery of the skull base.
